A customer navigates through your site to land on a product page. His intention is to find something interesting and to eventually make a purchase. The final decision greatly depends on the quality and quantity of information you provide but it doesn’t mean you should write a 1000-word description (save the words for a user guide or even a blog post about the product). Your goal is to show all the relevant info as quickly as possible, so it should be organized in a user-friendly manner.

Is Content Curation for You

One of the most common questions about content curation is...what does it really mean? Are we copying the content of other people and trying to get credit for it? Is it really that simple and if so, what about copyright infringement, etc.? Will Google and other SEs penalize our sites for curating content?

These are all valid questions and important ones because I'm sure some of the lazier and less savory folks may think it's that simple.

The idea behind content curation is to cut out the clutter of noise in the online publishing space and produce more infomative "chunks" for your readers to review.

For example, let's say you have a blog or website about fishing. You may have a passion for this niche and could write articles all day long. This is great but, not a particularly good use of your time. By grabbing content and provding links to other resources/sites that are relevant to your topic, you are providing your readers more information in one location...YOUR site!

If content is curated successfully, meaning you are genuinely providing additional information and sources that support your topic then you can quickly be seen as an authority, not only by your readers but by Google. This can have a huge impact on your earning potential and longevity in the search engines.

By the way, you are NOT stealing other peoples' content. Some webmasters may only provide a link to "other similar stories" while others may provide excerpts or short descriptions about another writer's work and of course provide a hyperlink to that source for the reader to follow if they want to read the full story, etc.

If used correctly, content curation can help provide a huge amount of original content to your website helping you get more traffic, earn more money, and hopefully stay on page one of Google for your niches no matter how many new algorithm changes Google decides to make in the future!

CPA Marketing and Its Advantages for Affiliates

If you’re new to affiliate marketing, you should consider CPA (or Cost Per Action) marketing. While CPA marketing is certainly not just for newbies, as some CPA affiliates make a ton of money, it’s a great type of marketing to get into because you get paid whenever someone (ie your site visitor) performs a certain action, such as submitting an email address.

As an affiliate, you promote different CPA offers. These offers vary in terms of the actions requried to get paid. Let’s take a look at some examples:

1) Email submits – This type of CPA offer requires that the visitor submits their email address in exchange for something like a voucher, entering a contest, getting a discount, a free sample, etc. You as the affiliate would get paid a small amount (let’s say $1) for this email.

2) Zip submits – Similar to email submits, the visitor only has to submit their post code to again, receive something in exchange. These may pay even less than email submits but are about on par with the payments.

3) Free offer that requires a credit card – These types of CPA offers usually pay a lot more, from $10 to $30 and above. The reason being that in order for the visitor to get a free something, e.g. a free bottle of diet pills, they must submit their credit card information because the free gift requires a small shipping fee. Since the company offering the free product now has your site visitors credit card information, they can rebill them for next months shipment, therefore you as an affiliate, get paid a lot more.

Whether a newbie or a pro, you’ll want to focus on getting qualified traffic to your high converting sales/squeeze page. If your traffic is good but conversions aren’t, then focus on improving your site in order to increase conversions. Always track where your visitors are going and if they’ve taken action on the merchant’s website so you can be sure you’re getting paid for every lead you send.

Navigating Your Cpanel and Hosting

This is a beginner’s tutorial to using Cpanel to manage your web hosting account. We can’t cover every single thing that Cpanel can do, because it’s just too complex. It’s so complex that many people are afraid to even use it.

It can certainly be a bit scary for anyone who hasn’t used it before. Technical people pick it up pretty quickly, but non-technical people usually stick to using only the most basic features to avoid confusing themselves.

(Just as a side note: At rightbiz.net we use a proprietary Control Panel, which we believe is much easier to use than cPanel).

Let’s go over some of the most common things you may need to use Cpanel for. First, you can add a domain to your hosting account. After you log into Cpanel, click “Addon Domains.” Where it says “New Domain Name,” enter your domain name with the format yourdomainname.com.

Then add the name of the subdirectory and username you want to use as your FTP login. This will be the directory where your website is stored on the server, and also your FTP username. Use something easy to remember, but not “yourdomainname.”

You don’t want to make it easy for hackers to find out your username. Then simply enter the password you wish to use for FTP and click the button that says “Add Domain!” Now you’ll be able to log in to the FTP account using the username and password you just set up.

Just remember, the domain name won’t resolve until you change the name servers in your domain account to point to the correct name servers. You’ll have to do that by logging in wherever you purchased the domain and finding the name server section for that domain.

The next thing you need to learn how to do is set up a MySQL database. From within Cpanel, click on the button that reads “MySQL Databases.” Enter the name of the database you want to create. If you’re creating a database for WordPress on a domain called LittleBlueCookie.com, you might call it “wplbc.” Then click on the button that reads, “Add Db.”

After the database is created, you have to set up the username and password. It will automatically take you back to the page where you can do this, so enter a username and password in the fields and submit it. Do NOT name your username the same thing as your database. That’s just making it easier for hackers to get into your database.

Make sure to add the user to the database. So many people forget to do this, and then they wonder why their scripts don’t work. You MUST add the user to the database. Use the dropdown boxes to select the username, then the database name. Tick the box to add all privileges for the user. Then click the button that says, “Add User to Db.”

Finally, you’ll probably want to set up an email address for your domain. To do this, click “Mail.” Then click the small link at the bottom that says, “Add Account.” Enter the name you wish to use, and then use the dropdown menu to select the domain you wish that email address to be set up for.

If you want the email address johndoe@yourdomainnname.com, enter johndoe in the name area, and select the proper domain. Next, enter a password that’s hard to guess, but make sure you write it down.

Leave the quota blank if you want the amount of space the email can take up to be limited only by your web space. That’s it! Your new email is ready to use. As you get comfortable with one feature of cpanel, see what the others have to offer.

There are many exciting elements, like being able to add a blog, add a forum, and check your web page statistics, to name a few. None of them are difficult to manage once you know the step-by-step details to follow.
